Drivers will now be able to get the latest traffic information delivered straight to their car whilst en route which could cut the amount of time spent in roadworks or jams significantly.

Toyota is the first manufacturer to introduce the Travel Protocol Expert Group (TPEG) digital traffic information system to its 2012 models.

The TPEG is the latest addition to the Toyota Touch multimedia system and uses a DAB digital tuner to give detailed traffic information by tracking a car's movements via satellite.

It will give drivers more insight into what lies ahead on their journey and will mean those behind the wheel can make better decisions about which routes to take and which to avoid.

TPEG will be available in Toyota's 2012 Land Cruiser V8 and 2012 Prius T Spirit.
